I was born in Sheffield, England, and after working in a factory for a very short time, I quickly realised that I was in the wrong industry and left to begin my career in music by playing keyboards in local bands. This was at the peak of the Sheffield music scene, when The Human League, ABC, Thompson Twins, Pulp and Def Leppard were still playing local venues.
In 1984 I opened Priority Recording Studio in the city centre and this gave me a place to develop my own writing and production.
In 1987 I had my first commercially published works - idents for Tyne Tees TV and Central Television, then TV adverts for British Gas. In 1989 I signed a publishing deal with Zomba Music, then in 1990, a producer management agreement, also with Zomba, and I worked almost exclusively at Battery Studios in London. In 1994 I went freelance, still working mostly in London but also in Minneapolis, Los Angeles and Cairo.
After having engineered a few library albums for Chappell Music, a producer there gave me the chance to write an album for them and I realised that it was time to shift my focus towards writing production music. From about 2000, I've been writing and recording my own material for Chappel and Bruton (now part of Universal), Unity, Zone, Power, and most recently, Universal U.S. Winning the PMA Mark Award for best Hip Hop track for a co-written Universal Production Music track in 2020.
